   Resurrection Living
I was afraid
that with their blocks of concrete
the skyscrapers might wound the dawn,

But you ought to see
how sensitive they are
to the morning light,
how they disarm
and lose their cutting edge
and steely soul!

They too are caught
in the irresistible spell
of the holy hour
when the whole natural world
in rapture chants
creation's hymn of praise.

---Dom Helder Camara

Mornings can be tough. Even if you are a morning person, the haze of the mind's confusion and the hangover of a dream's emotion can short circuit the promise of a new beginning.

But within creation ,no matter how dark and cold, there is a moment of dawn when life awakens with a sense that betrays the agony. It begins with a wordless stupor, that then thrusts into exhilaration. When it finally becomes audible, it can only be described as praise!

Richard Rohr says he finds these moments come on to him unexpectedly. One day he was in a supermarket and found himself entranced by boxes of Tide. There was a joy that was able to burst through the enslaving  manipulation of materialism!

The reason atheism is so much in vogue today is because we have made faith into a mind game, and stifled our awareness of the sanctity of these serendipitous moments of praise. If there is any proof for the existence of God it is evident when praise catches us unaware.

Today, let yourself be sensitive to the sacredness around you. Let it dawn on you how  praiseworthy anything you encounter today is!

Peace and Joy,
H. Frank
